Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo

Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo is the first Western woman to be recognized and enthroned
as a Tulku or reincarnate lama in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Born Alice Zeoli in Brooklyn,
New York, Jetsunma’s compassion and longing to end the suffering
of the world was evident at an early age. Since her recognition
and enthronement in 1988 by one of the greatest masters of Buddhism,
His Holiness Penor Rinponche, Jetsunma has established a thriving
temple in rural Maryland which is known to be one of largest ordained
communities in North America. Even before her recognition Jetsunma
always talked about the great compassion, Bodhichitta… the urge
to be of benefit to others and to end suffering. Jetsunma is "hard
wired" for compassion. She has been called a great Bodhisattva
by her teachers and many Tibetan masters who have taught at the
temple over the years.

Over the years Jetsunma has invited many
of the world’s most revered Tibetan Buddhist masters to
offer empowerments and teachings at Kunzang Palyul Chöling.
Along with Jetsunma’s teachings and songs that are offered
